Navigating HR policies can feel like a maze. To help you plan your vacations, family time, and recovery periods, we’ve broken down the essential leave categories available to you.


📅 Regular Leave Categories

1. Leave on Average Pay (LAP)

Commonly known as "Earned Leave," this is your primary vacation bank.

  • Accrual: 30 days per year, credited in two instalments (15 days each on January 1st and July 1st).

  • Accumulation: You can stack up to a maximum of 300 days.

  • Encashment: You can encash 10 days every alternate year (up to 6 times in your career), provided you maintain at least a 10-day balance afterward.

2. Leave on Half Average Pay (LHAP)

  • Accrual: 20 days per year, credited in advance on January 1st.

  • Flexibility: There is no maximum limit for accumulation.

  • Conversion: This can be "commuted" to LAP (Medical Leave) by surrendering 2 days of LHAP for every 1 day of full-pay leave.

3. Leave Not Due (LND)

An advance of leave granted to permanent employees when no other leave is available.

  • Limit: Maximum 360 days during your entire career.


👟 Casual & Short-Term Leave

Casual Leave (CL)

  • Standard: 8 days per year (for those enjoying Gazetted Holidays). +2 RH

  • Non-Gazetted Staff: 10 days per year.

  • Inclusion: Persons with disabilities receive an additional 4 days of CL annually.

Compensatory Casual Leave (CCL/Rest)

For Group C & D staff (excluding supervisors) who work on Sundays or Holidays.

  • Rule: Must be used within 30 days of the day worked.

  • Note: If you aren't entitled to the rest day, you may be eligible for conveyance charges.

🏥 Medical & Special Circumstances

Special Casual Leave (Family Welfare)

Planning for the future? The government supports family planning with dedicated time off:

  • Vasectomy: 6 days.

  • Tubectomy: 14 days for females; 7 days for males (wife's operation).

  • Recanalisation: 21 days or actual hospitalization period.

Disability & Hospital Leave

  • Hospital Leave: For injuries incurred on duty. First 120 days are full pay; total duration up to 28 months.

  • Special Disability Leave: For intentional injuries caused by others or due to performance of duty. Up to 24 months.


📚 Growth & Extended Absences

Study Leave

Investing in yourself?

  • Duration: 12 months at a time, 24 months total in a career.

  • Benefit: You still earn LAP and LHAP while on study leave!

  • Requirement: The subject must relate to your official duties, and you must stay with the organization for 3 years after returning.

Extra Ordinary Leave (EOL)

The "last resort" leave when no other balance exists.

  • Pay: No leave salary is paid.

  • Limit: Up to 5 years for regular staff.

  • Note: EOL (unless for study) does not count toward your pension qualifying service.
